What is CKA?
The credential for running Kubernetes in production. Uniquely, it is entirely hands-on: you are dropped into live clusters and given real tasks under a two-hour clock, so it cannot be passed by memorising a question bank — you either can operate Kubernetes or you cannot.
Skills it covers
- Kubernetes administration
- Cluster architecture
- Troubleshooting
- Networking
Is CKA worth it? The Crydd Verdict
CS 63Choose it if
You run containerised infrastructure, or want to. Kubernetes is now default infrastructure across a large share of engineering organisations, and CKA is the credential that proves you can actually keep it healthy.
Consider alternatives if
You mostly build apps rather than operate clusters — CKAD (the developer exam) fits better — or you are brand new to containers, where a Docker and Linux foundation comes first.
Why we say so
A genuinely practical exam, a scarce operational skill, and Kubernetes' ubiquity combine to give CKA one of the strongest signal-to-cost ratios in cloud-native.
Market demand
Kubernetes has become standard production infrastructure, and engineers who can administer it well are in shorter supply than those who can merely deploy to it — which is why CKA is named directly in DevOps and platform-engineering roles.
Where CKA takes you
- DevOps Engineer
- Cloud Engineer
- Site Reliability Engineer
